TAPPI Nano 2019 Workshop Focuses on CNM Characterization Measurement Protocols

TAPPI Nano 2019 Workshop Focuses on CNM Characterization Measurement Protocols

It is critical to use characterization measurement protocols that give consistent, reliable, and accurate results. Because of the exponential growth in interest and activity around cellulose nanomaterials (CNMs), development of these measurement protocols has been outpaced.

Which is why at this year’s International Conference on Nanotechnology for Renewable Materials (TAPPI Nano 2019), a three-hour workshop is being offered outlining best practices and limitations for several techniques or methods typically used for characterizing CNMs. Particular attention is given to surface charge, purity, crystallinity, particle morphology, and mechanical properties. Experts will cover the purpose of the given technique and provide best-practice examples highlighting the technique in real-world use.

Workshop Topics

  • Know your starting material
  • Surface charge determination
  • Morphological determination via Electron Microscopy (EM) and Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM)
  • Crystallinity determination
  • Mechanical properties of nanocomposite
  • How and what to report

Who should attend?
This workshop will interest anyone in industry or academia who is a novice at conducting standard materials characterization of CNMs.
